We are the Rafer Johnson Junior High School Olympians

Rafer Johnson Junior High School staff and students live by the motto, “Be the best that you can be.” In 1993, the current junior high was built and named after one of Kingsburg’s hometown heroes, Mr. Rafer Johnson. A product of Kingsburg’s community spirit, Mr. Johnson exemplifies the values our teachers try to instill in our population of 7th and 8th grade students.

Academic achievement for all students is the primary purpose that permeates every aspect of Rafer Johnson Junior High School. Dedicated teams of Highly Qualified teachers meet on a regular basis to plan and implement instructional research-based strategies by using current student data. Intervention workshops provide students with the skills needed to achieve at grade-level standards. A classified support staff of 20 individuals work together to provide an outstanding atmosphere through supporting nutritional needs and providing instructional support, and a clean and safe environment, to aid in improving academic achievement.

Each day of the week professionals and paraprofessionals are available to provide medical, speech and counseling services. Along with the many student services provided at Rafer Johnson Junior High School, there is a large selection of extracurricular activities for students. Our goal is to foster the unique talent of each student and build a strong school spirit that will support academic success.

As a result of everyone’s hard work and dedication, RJJH grew 36 points in the Academic Performance Index (API), one of the highest growth scores in the valley.

In November of 2004, Rafer Johnson Junior High was asked by the California Department of Education to present their school wide model of academic achievement at California Reading Conference. It was an honor to represent the unique and outstanding community of Kingsburg on a state wide level.

The goal of Rafer Johnson Junior High is to prepare our students for high school, college and their future by providing a safe environment that nurtures their intellectual, physical, social and moral capacities as individuals so they can contribute to their community and nation. We are proud to be Olympians and strive to “Be the best we can be.”
